I'd like to get Freeview HD and I was wondering if anyone had experience with reception in Mission Bay, specifically the flatter area towards the waterfront that's surrounded by hills. Most of the nearby TV antennas seem to be pointing towards Remuera. I'm thinking of buying a TV tuner for our lounge computer (we don't have a TV) and maybe one of those Draco antennas.

Any idea if that might work well enough?

I live in a small apartment building and the current UHF antenna and wiring on top looks to be in bad shape and needing to be replaced. Analog reception is terrible now but it used to be much better. A while back I contacted several installers from the phone book to try to get the antenna system fixed, but had very little luck with them. They mostly didn't bother responding to calls or emails. So if you know of an installer that works in this area and knows what he's doing, I'd love to have his contact details.

Thanks for your help

Cheers

No, I can't. It looks like most of the UHF antennas around here are pointing in the general direction of Remuera. I think there's a transmitter out there somewhere.

Yeah I'm pretty sure you can, I'm in a gully in Kohi with our antenna pointing towards Remuera and I can get it (not fantastic signal, but mostly good)

Thanks. What kind of antenna are you using? Any boosters or amplifiers?

If Remuera doesn't work for you, try swinging the antenna around towards Pinehill, on the North Shore. Also, Freeview is vertically polarised for Remuera, but Horizontal for Pinehill, so be prepared to change antenna to vertical or horizontal as required, and rescan for any new Freeview channels each time you change antenna direction as the sites use different frequencies. For what its worth, Waiatarua is horizontal and Sky Tower is vertical should you wish to try those as well. (see http://www.freeviewshop.co.nz/digital-terrestrial-i-8.html)

It's a combination type antenna thats been elevated a on a longish pole on top of the house (maybe 1.5m) I've also got a small powered booster. The signal is almost non-existant without it.

I'm right on the base of the hill so am likely to have a worse signal than you.
Looking around the houses that are on the flat, they seem to have normal antennas.
(even 2 of my neighbours gets UHF/VHF signals without special antenna/booster)
