hey guys, as the topic says i am unable to receive from two different transponders simultaneously. I can record one channel and watch another on the same transponder but am unable to access a different transponder while doing this. i believe in NZ i should be able to do this since the freeview channels all use Horizontal polarity. has anyone succeeded in doing this?

You don't mention what receiver you are using.

To recieve more than one transponder at a time, you will need more than one tuner. A tuner can only lock on to one frequency at a time, but multiple channels can be extracted from the mux on that frequency (hence why you can watch several on the same transponder).

An LNB will pass all signals on the same polarity down the cable at once, but unless you have more than one tuner, you can only "listen" to one of those frequencies.

what device are you trying to record from 2 transponders at once on? some HTPC's specifically support this feature, but most dont. not sure how many STBs support this feature.

I assume you're using DVB-S here too...

best to put all the facts in your post if you want a decent answer.

seeing you have two cards, there should be no problems in accessing two transponders at once - one transponder per card. are there any settings you can tweak in mediaportal regarding tuner priority? perhaps set a tuner for record and a tuner for watching. Perhaps its not able to access the second tuner for some reason (e.g. MCE or WinTV is consuming it)?

In mediaportal's tvserver setup make sure that each dvb-s card is only set up to receive one transponder
ie
dvb-s card 1 = 12483000 (tv 1 & 2 etc)
dvb-s card 2 = 12456000 (tv 3 etc)

No need for each card to receive both transponders it just creates problems and gets confusing - its a good way to make sure each card is working too.

Best remove all channels from the tvserver setup and rescan each card with only one transponder - you can then sort the channel order, put them all in one group, and then no more problems :)

You can add the sbs transponder to one of the cards but as soon as you watch or rec off of it you will not be able to watch or rec off of any of the freeview transponders (both cards) as long as that channel is being watched or recorded (the LNB will be locked on different polarity than the one freeview comes in on)

@Biggles69: That works in principle, but there is actually a bug in MediaPortal that won't allow more than one user to watch one channel on any given tuner *for some cards and some transponders*. This bug should be resolved in 1.2.0b but there is a workaround that I could share if that is actually the problem being faced here. That is why I asked "what tuners"...

If anything I would have thought that you would want 22kHz to be *off*...
