Hi,

I receive prime and mts fairly well through my UHF aerial. There is a bit of noise. I will have to run a 15 meter long cable to get to where my TV is. Will this length cause any signal lose and with mts and prime not crystal clear is it still possible to get HD.

Cheers.

So you get Prime in your current TV's location and are moving the TV to a new location?

Try it and see. If it doesn't work you'll need to improve things. All rather obvious, though not meaning to seem rude.

If it doesn't work you can look at moving the aerial, improving the aerial, installing an amplifier to overcome the cable loss etc.

No I'm not moving the tv. I'm buying playtv to place in a another room and the temporary solution is to run a cable from the lounge as that tv does not us the UHF aerial.

All I want to know is if the signal would hold over 15 meters.

Are you simply extending the existing cable or are you splitting it so it will serve both the PS3 and the existing TV?-

The latter will have more of an impact, but you might be fine. But without a reading from an Field Strength meter there is no objective way to answer your question.

So basically I live in a flat. I have a ps3 in my room. In the lounge is a TV with sky and a UHF aerial coming through the wall that is not being used. I tested it on the lounge TV and it was ok so I'd figure running a cable would be a good solution for the mean time.

I kind of figured that would be the issue. Having said that, where is the best place to buy that length of cable?

Have you tried the new TV in the lounge to see if you get freeview HD reception on it there with the existing cable/aerial?

The guts of it is there is simply no way to know here if the additional loss via the 15m extension will reduce the signal below the quality level required for reliable viewing. Trying the existing location for freeview HD would be a good start.

Cable, Jaycar perhaps for that sort of length. If no one is using the existing aerial outlet you might want to consider cutting off the existing PAL TV plug and replacing this with an F connector and a proper F joiner.
