Maybe instead of just posting the link and using this to a "I'm first" you could say something...
I mean you didn't even read the article did you? They are opening up a new channel which will operate in it's place.

Not too much of a surprise. TVNZ held out for further Government funding to keep it commercial free. As this doesnt appear to be forthcoming its left with little choice but to move to an advertising funded model - and some slight format change to take its skew younger.

Worst case TVNZ could have taken the easy (and cheaper) road of a +1 model.

Hope that TVNZ7 can stay a PBS style operation.

I did read the article. But you don't need to read the article to see that it is being realigned as a youth channel the detail is in the link.

Good, as it is both 6 and 7 are idle for so much of the time, or providing news clips on the most stupid of layout etc.

All the old TVNZ crap belongs on heartland where they can get a return on it from sky subscribers who have no say in the matter, the kids stuff also there are sky channels for people who want a digital babysitter. 7 taking all the remaining funding means they should be able to sort it out and make a case for more money, 6 was never a good idea IMO.

Probably a good time to explain to them that life isn't always fair and they can't always get what they want.  Then buy them some DVDs.

TVNZ6 and TVNZ7 are not idle.

We don't need another "youth" channel. They have C4, and other crap already. Kids on the other hand don't have quality TV - and Nickelodeon is not quality TV.

Most of the time I have looked at tvnz 6 it has been some stupid old shows they put on because they are free, like the one with the dog and the sheep or old shortland streets that are of zero interest to anyone, or they have their logo saying they will be back at 6am etc.

If they are not fully using the channels 24/7 then they should be made into one, they have said that some of the tvnz 6 stuff will move to 7, so move the kids stuff over so that the channel is active 24/7 and then people can timeshift the kids stuff to when the kids want it since it is hardly time critical stuff.

TVNZ 7 overnight have a hopeless loop or previous stories with different articles taken from teletext scrolling in the lower half in massive font with a giant weather logo and 2 massive empty areas. Cant tell me that is good use of a channel.

TVNZ were given a crapload of our money to help with the change to digital, and we got no AC3 and at best 3/4 of a channel of content

That's because "KIDS" are supposed to be in bed after 7pm. Kids programs are screened from 6am through 7pm. You must be sleeping through that time slot ;)
