So, am about to embark on rewiring a house while it gets some major renovations...

I'm looking for any reccommendations as to where I might be best to source some RG6 cable from. Because of the location, it's probably going to be a DVB-S solution (I'm pretty sure there's no DVB-T coverage in the area (Matakana way).

I've looked on Trademe, but it seems to be a bit of a crapshoot as to which is the best stuff... otherwise should I try to get an account somewhere? Or access to someone who has? (That's not insurmountable).

www.powerbase.co.nz

They have trade stores all around the country. Most of them should sell to the general public.

Also try...

Buying from a wholesaler is a crapshoot as to what you pay - since their prices are all loaded so much, so they can give sparkys massive discounts for paying ontime etc, and in some cases they have even higher "retail" prices, like $12 a meter for 1mm lighting cable so that sparks can bill out based on those rates.

If you dont get an 80% discount off the listed prices you are being ripped off, coax should come in about 60-70c a meter tops, a bit more if you are making them cut the roll for you.

Electrical Direct have it for $1.00 excl GST cut to length or 77c excl if you by a drum (152m)

If you wanted to be cheeky you could print that page and take it to bunnings or Mitre 10 and get a price match and you should get it for under a $1 a metre.

Unless it is the identical brand and supplier then miter10 and bunnings will not price match. Tried it many times, and they even get slightly different models on the branded powertools so a makita that one place sells, the other doesnt.

If you are searching online for a good deal you could remove some of the element of chance by looking for a brand - search for Belden RG6 Cable for example.

Not ellies or whatever cheapies you see on trademe either. Got a length of that and I have seen more shielding on a dollarstore RCA cable.

Times fiber was another acceptable brand I recall

You could also search for aerial/antenna installers/suppliers. There used to be a couple up Hillside Road in Glenfield. They'll be able to sell you associated connectors, outlets, and splitters as well.

Otherwise Jaycar is good... but since you're in Matakana why not check out the DSE in Warkworth. Prices may be a little higher but 'it's ya local'.

Clayworth on hillside road had gone to the dogs when I was last in there, and the prices they wanted for a cash sale were insane. They do sell on trademe as antronic or similar, with much better prices than they want in the "showroom"
