I am having a real issue with my freeview recorder. It doesn't let me record anything at all, even though I have nothing preset to record. Everytime I try to record something, it always says "This programme cannot be booked at this time. Please try again later", after I've tried to record the whole series. At the same time is also, in brackets (code -2) Then it says to continue, with a yellow square to indicate you need to push the yellow button on remote.

Any help would be much appreciated!! Smile

Thanks

You haven't provided anywhere enough detail. You haven't provided a brand of recorder to begin with.

Sorry! The brand is a homecast freeview recorder. The model is HT900DTR. Hope this helps a bit.

I had similar problems with my JC Matthews PVR on Four and C4 only. It seems to have come right on it's own.

Someone mentioned recording (presumably) American Idol over Lotto (i.e. 7.30-8.00, 8.05-8.35). My box has both episodes listed in the EPG as recording with series link, but it only even records the first half. Do any of the boxes record this properly?

I've also noticed that the units don't appear to share the content of the over run between files when you record 2 shows back to back.

By that I mean, if I record that new Hawaii show followed by NCIS, I get the start of the second show in the first recording, and the recording for the 2nd show starts 1 or 2 minutes into it. Hope that's kinda clear.

Would be cool if it wrote that run on time after the first show finishes to both files.

And last week my JC Matthews unit didn't record the All Mighty Johnson thing for some reason, even though it's series linked.

And also the JC Matthews unit at least shows the series link 'S' icon next to all the shows in the guide, ie the main one, plus the next week late show and the TV3+1 channel. However it only seems to record the proper one.

100% agree (although I usually get the end of the first show on the second recording).  It's not a big deal, but it's annoying when I have to keep a recording around just for the 2 minutes of the previous show that's on the start.  Always made sense to me that it should just be added to both recordings, that way you miss nothing.

I also missed Almighty Johnsons and Hawaii 5-0 this week.  I think it's the old problem of repeat screenings stuffing up the EPG.  Hopefully, it will pick up the repeat screenings.  The problem was addressed in the past somewhere, but nothing ever came of it.  It can usually be resolved by readding the recording the day of the show, but that's a real hassle.  I think it's related to the EPG being updated or something, it used to happen with 24 all the time but then it just started working.

.

Going a little OT here but..

Both my units run EIT (not official) and I'm yet to find the guide tick over correctly before the program/as the program is about to begin which constantly causes this issue.

Last night for example Saturday Night Lights had started, the epguide said there was still 14mins left to go of the previous show!

Constantly find it out by up to 5mins/well into shows. Possibly being due to it having its own stream and not being syncronised as the programming change occurs.

My watch tends to give the hour beep just as the news weather lady says 'its 6 oclock and now its time for the news' Yet the guide, has often changed earlier, or still showing the previous show length.

Perhaps the injection of ads screw it up when they lengthen some for the shorter episodes (37min vs 42 and 45)

Yeah initially I always thought the reason the now/next was on EIT was to signal the start of the program for recording purposes.  Turns out it's not and seems to only be used to offer a bit of data about what's coming up next and for file naming purposes etc.

Given the EIT system is already in place I still don't see why it can't have a bit more info so the likes of Windows media centre and PlayTV for PS3 etc can't just work here in NZ.  But that's another story and seems to have been worked around by the great lengths some here have done to extract the info from the MHEG5 EPG into some useable form.

With regards the original post, I believe there were some issues after the C4 channel change recently and yes, a factory reset seems to have sorted those for most.

Going slightly off topic here (sorry). The MagicTV will record the end of one show, and at the same time record the start of the next show, all at the same time. It will use just one of the tuners to do this, and it can also do the same thing with the second tuner at the same time. Effectively it is recording 4 programs, from two channels, all at the same time, when there is an overlap set up.

Hmm, was just going to say that the overlap would be due to there only being one tuner available, and the unit not being able to record two channels from the same mux/transponder. Might be wrong though. Is there a pre/post record time setting on the STBs? I know it isn't ideal, but that might be the best that you can do if the EPG is wrong. Mine is set to 3min/3min and I never miss recordings...

I had the same message with our Panasonic recorder. I updated the software online and it now works perfectly.

Could you possibly give a link for that? I get to the page where i select NZ and click "Go", but nothing happens.
