Noticed something interesting tonight (Monday) as I was channel surfing. TVONE, TV2 and TV3 at 8:30 were all showing HD shows. They were Criminal Minds, Desperate Housewives and CSI. Of course the lack of DD5.1 on TVNZ was quite noticeable as I switched from channel to channel and then to TV3 and the sound space widened appreciably and the sub kicked in. I was watching on a PS3 using PlayTV.

Alas none of the shows captured enough of my interest to continue viewing but it's a good sign I guess of some progress towards more HD content on FTA.

I was at a friend's place on Monday night.

He was watching CSI on his FV TV and recording TV1/2 on the TIVO.

Yes - how quickly the novelty of HD wears off eh?
I remember watching a Die Hard movie a year ago only because it was
1) HD
2) 5.1 sound
3) Had just got a surround home theatre hooked up.

Still - I do marvel at the vivid picture quality once in a while - usually after watching something on prime in SD!

Well I have twin DVB-T tuners in my PVR so I could have recorded two channels on the PC and the third on my PS3. But I chose to watch and record none!

HD is great but we also need 5.1 audio since that makes the complete experience. So shame on TVNZ.
