Hi,

I am living on Alexandra Road in Hataitai with no line of sight to either Kaukau or Fitzherbert.

I have read in another article that there are four repeater stations in Wellington to fill in black spots like mine. Anyone have an idea where these are?

My UHF aerial is currently pointed towards Kaukau and intermittently receives Kordia broadcasts but nothing else. Others in my neighbourhood are pointed to Kaukau and a handful seem to be pointed at Fitzherbert. I have tried Fitzherbert but the signal is even weaker.

I suspect I might be in the satellite only boat but any help is appreciated.

Regards,
Tim

Hi Tim, I am also in Hataitai and do antenna installs, so maybe give me a PM and I come and look at your reception issues.

Basically there is not much on offer other than what you have already done.

That said I have had a couple of moderate successes in your area by gettting a reflected signal by pointing at the hills either above Lyall bay (near the VHF repeater) or the hills above the airport, its possible to get signals in the mid 50dbuV, the MER and channel flatness is typical of non direct signals, so there are high risks but when nothing else will work its worth a crack.

In the old analog days to use a reflected signal was hopeless as all you got was a heavily ghosted image (as you would expect), however with COFDM ghosting is not so much an issue as its designed to deal with heavily multipathed signals. That said any non direct path I can never guarantee.

More than happy to do a site test to see what we can do.

Cyril

I'm not familiar with Wellington but it looks like Baxter's Knob and Haywards have Freeview too. I have no idea whether that helps you or not :)

Yep, and both are around 50km and several hill ranges from the OPs house.

Cheers
