Hi bought a Hills receiver at the start of the year (Jan 2011), has worked OK - haven't had any major problems except it bugging out when changing channels to quickly. Today it lost the plot, has some function numeric sign where the channel is usually displayed, and will start up last about 10 seconds freeze with sound going then reset and do it all over again.

Sadly can't find the receipt so not likely we can take it back.

Two Questions:

  1. One does anyone know if this problem can be fixed?

  2. And Also what is a good receiver? the Guy at Dick Smith said this was the better of the models we looked at and seems o be a piece.

Any suggestions/help would be appreciated?

If you know when and where you bought it and you used your credit card then they should be able to print out a copy of your receipt.
Dick Smith were able to do this for me when my STB died after two years and I got a replacement under the CGA.

I have got a hills, and it isn't particularly good. It regularly freezes or restarts. Took it back to the shop but they couldn't find anything wrong. It is one of those annoying intermittent things that can't be replicated, it just does it from time to time. I also purchased a non freeview approved receiver on trademe at a fraction of the price and that is way better, although more difficult to setup.

Did you do a reset and download a software update? If it is playing up, you may not be able to.

Yeah I can't take it back I pushed the button in then attempted to pull it out also, hasn't changed the problem but has some screw driver marks. I read about the factory reset, though I can't get it to stay running long enough before a reset before it resets.

As far as I know the software wasn't updated recently so I would expect it to possibly be a hardware issue, also because of the odd code on the numeric "Calculator" display - I don't think anyone would code in something like that (They may have).

Any suggestions on a replacement?
