Who wants to join, I have already got many PlayTV users on my friendship list..we can use "Chat TV" and compare notes etc. My log in name on the PSN is "wilt64" also very interesting keeping an eye on "community favorites" a real time people meter.....I bet the TV networks keep an eye on this, it is interesting to note 3News is miles ahead of one news every night.......

This isn't mean to be a rude question, but are they actually that many PlayTV users? I thought with the limitations of the guide data it's uptake wouldn't be that high?

Would be happy to be proved wrong on the feature set!

Yes heaps on, an average night checking "community Favorites" there are hundreds on.....makes a very interesting "people meter"

our flat wanted freeview. it was $150 for a freeview box or $180 if we waited a month for playtv (it hadnt quite come out here)

We used the ps3 for media sharing from the pc, and figured for the extra the ability to record and not have any more remotes was worth it.
Only REALLY bad point was when the PSN got hacked and went down ps3 wouldnt connect to net...Seems it gets the TV Guide off the net...so couldnt see what was on or book things for a month.

3 years with the ps3 and never a problem with the 40gig hdd.
4days with PlayTV and I had to order a new one : ( almost costed more then the freeview box!

Shall add you tonight...I also didnt realise how many people used it...We've never used the social side of it.

Sorry to take it slightly off topic, but is the EPG complete? I.e. all channels and more than just "now and next", like 7+ days worth?

Yes just NZ, community favorites just shows NZ channels, interesting to note 3News is miles ahead of One News every night!!!

No it's not complete. No Maori or Prime (-is that correct?)

It get's the EPG info from the internet and it's at least 7 days worth ahead for the remaining channels.

If you buy the unit in NZ you get the EPG component for free.
If you have hardware from UK etc then you have to pay a 1 off fee to download the EPG bit.
If you don't get the EPG this way then you are stuck with the limited freeview HD/UHF EIT data now and next info.

If the PSN Network is offline, do you still get the EPG data? Not sure about this one.

This is one of the reasons I originally didn't get a PlayTV - it seems dumb on Sony's part to release a cool product with unique features (remote play) and they cripple it with no guide data for SOME channels.

Do you get "now and next" on Price, TV3 etc? Or nothing at all?

If there was a way around this I would seriously look to using my PS3 as a Freeview Tuner rather than my power hungry and loud HTPC, plus it's one less device.

with TV3 and Prime EPG you can see 3 to 4 events ahead as that is coming from the FreeviewHD EIT EPG, the rest of the data is feed from the on line "tvtv" stream. Overall PlayTV works fine and remember you can manual record as well.
I have MySKYHDi and PlayTV and use both, mainly use PlayTV when I want to record something on TV3 that is in 5.1 (TV3 on SKY is not in 5.1)
