I do this all the time. I have a Mediaportal client running on my Mac, which plays live DVB-T from my Mediaportal TV Server in the lounge. This is a Windows solution (I dual boot OSX/Win7).

If however you are actually after an OSX specific solution, I know there are some Elgato products that seem to be well regarded, and while speccing my HTPC I found reference to OSX in some of the Hauppauge stuff.

Hmm, Elgato: I have seen that before. Unfortunately, it is $79.95 USD which is kind of outside my price range as a student. As for the Hauppauge stuff that appears to only work on Windows..

You can use EyeTV from Elgato but check their site for DVB-T card support.

I don't know of any free drivers that would work with VLC on OS-X

yeah theres not much options for macs, elgato is basically it. you can get mythtv running on a mac though.

personally i dont like elgato, its fine if you using a mouse keyboard as input devices, but completely terrible if you just want to use a remote. i gave up and sadly now run win7 on my htpc mac minis.

Hi,

There are two components to the elgato option.

Eyetv - software - they pwn the market with this.
Hardware - Most of their hardware is rebadged/packaged hauppage equipment, and I think I have seen support for these other brands in the software (check their site, I can check my Eyetv software tomorrow).

Biggest issue with Eyetv: MHEG epg

Couple of guys on here have done some work with the epg collector software (is up on GZ and on Git), running through mono, but it is pretty basic at this point (last time I checked).

The only other option for the epg is to download it using an xmltv file.

Hope this helps,

Jon

Does Windows work well enough with the Elgato tuner via Media Centre?

my eyetv dtt deluxe didnt work well under window, lots of jerky and crappy video, so i just bought a $100 hauppauge nova t stick which works fine.

others might of had better experience with elegato hw under windows though.  i may have just been an one off.

Ahh fair enough, yeah I forgot that just because you're using Mac hardware you're not limited to Elgato if you're running Windows :)

My Elgato Hybrid (DVB-T and analogue) is a rebranded Hauppauge and works in Windows (I haven't tried Media Centre specifically).

I used a usb dvb-t elgato dual tuner in my mac mini running plex

just replace the usb one with the hd home run which is like a networked tuner so I can use any device to use the tuners over the lan.
