Happened to see the new Charlies Angels on TV2 the other day. Wasn't that impressed but did notice it wasn't in HD. Thinking perhaps it was cheap discarded US series I was very surprised it is a new fall show on ABC and TV2 is airing eps one week after their US broadcast. Presumambly it's coming via satellite so unless there is some technical constraint over delivering HD shows over satellite pwhich is very unlikely, this is just cheapness on TVNZ's part.

And just when they began to broadcast 5.1 audio.

I noticed they broadcast Harry Potter marked as HD but it looked like SD to me.

TVNZ "HD" quality is simply miles behind TV3 HD.
Picture quality and audio quality.
Albeit the RWC games had great sound, but that was because it was a straight 5.1 audio feed.

Sound was very 5.1 though.

It is a bit tardy on TVNZ's part as Mediaworks is bringing in X Factor via sat the same week as broadcast in the US on Fox and it's HD.. No problems there with HD via sat..

Charlies Angels is brought in on TVNZ's leased (SD) fibre from LA. HD would be considerably more expensive and would require specially booked satellite space. I guess it has been decided that any increase in ratings likely to come from HD would not offset the increased costs. That position could potentially change as a result of viewer feedback...

It's all about the money. HD unfortunately is only valued by a minority of viewers. Monday's x factor was only 5 hours after the US screening. Wow.

Consiering the show has been canned I don't think viewer feedback will change anything!

Like a good cake... content is 90%. The HD icing is the sweet 10% that I'm enjoying! But the content equals ratings.

Did anyone notice how the TV1 coverage of the NZ vs Australia game was infinitely better quality than the TV3 coverage?

I have to admit I was surprised as I always thought TV3 had the better quality HD. Not to mention TV3 was delayed by 3-5 seconds vs. TV1 - Freeview terrestrial of course.

Interested to know if anyone else noticed that?

Hardly surprising.  The casting was abysmal. What were they thinking of?

It's interesting that you thought it was better, as discussed in the other threads there were many (including myself) who thought the TV1 broadcasts were vastly inferior to the TV3 feed. The post processing and sharpening IMHO looked terrible.

Tv1 and Tv3 looked similar to me. No big difference on my Panasonic plasma.
