Hi

I'm in Glenfield and noticed recently that channels 1 and 2 has been really average coverage with heaps of distortion to the point of not being able to watch shows, especially in the evening during prime time but tv3, 4, Maori no problems. Anyone else running into this?

Cheers

What do you mean by "distortion"?. I presume you mean TV1 & TV2 which are on the same channel (MUX).
No problems here in Beachhaven on my Sony TV but have been getting minor drop-outs (TV1) on the HVR2200 in the PC usually around News time. No pixellation, just very short picture freeze and occasional audio loss. Seems to happen only at certain times of the year.

Had major issues with all TVNZ channels in Khandallah on the weekend, signal kept breaking up to the point where it was unwatchable. Seemed to right itself in time for the rugby on Sunday night though :)

Do you have direct line of sight to the transmitter? If you don't, in my personal experience, it can be a nightmare particularly if the neighbourhood has large trees in the way which could cause issues such as obliterating the reception of one mux while sparing other muxes when there is wind about.

FWIW... I had a similar issue in St Johns (Grand Drive) with the Waiatarua TVNZ mux disappearing completely while Kordia and Canwest were fine during periods of windy weather. I checked the Aerial (unsightly 91 element one), cables and connections, even got out an unused (still in it's plastic pack) 4 bay phased array and ran new RG-6 Cable directly (no joins, splits, or amplifiers) to a reference Television to check... Same issue when the wind came around.

Eventually I got frustrated enough to try another transmitter on the off chance it may be better. I was in luck and the Sky tower turned out to be quite a bit stronger on all muxes (+ some extra Korean/christian Mux), and strong + stable enough that I could hide the Antenna in the attic. (Infact, turns out one of the TVs had already tuned itself to the Skytower TVNZ mux judging by the frequency it had tuned itself to )
At least one other neighbour has also since realigned their antenna to the skytower.

If after having checked the connections and aerial and they both appear to be fine, try running a direct line using new cable to the TV. Failing that, see if you can get the signal off another transmitter

Yep Mt Kaukau is directly opposite me. So close that I can even get a full crystal clear signal with no antenna connected to the tv at all :) Just had a terrible weekend with TVNZ is all.

Thanks All

Bender I think I might have that lot, as the other muxes (now that I understand what they are) are fine.  I have some trees around, but haven't grown enough to warrant this type of interference.

We're unfortunately stuck in the shadow of a large building so might need to see if there's another transmitter I can hit around me.

Cheers for the advice everyone much appreciated.
