Provided you are in the Freeview HD coverage area and have a UHF antenna, Yes.

By UHF antenna you mean one that gets me channel 1,2,3 and prime?
Thanks

NO.
TV1 2 and 3 analogue is on VHF (Large antenna)
They are only UHF on Freeview Terrestrial Digital.
Prime is on UHF analogue (small antenna).
If you currently receive Prime and Maori TV OK on analogue then Freeview should be OK but you may need to replace your VHF antenna with a UHF one if you don't have one already.
Check the Freeview Shop online to see aerials.

As others have said, if you are in the coverage area and have a suitable UHF aerial, that will work. However it's not the only way to get Freeview|HD - if you don't want to spend as much as a new TV will cost, you could buy a Freeview|HD receiver such as one of these and connect it to your current TV. Of course you will only see a High Definition picture if your current TV has a HD display.

thanks for the replies, we are looking to buy a new 32 inch television full hd this christmas :)
a good upgrade from the 19 inch CRT
my parents are keen to not have the "box" as it will take up heaps of room, so i think we will have to upgrade the antenna unfortunately

I recommend you go larger than that for the main TV. 32" 16:9 widescreen televisions do not have the same screen area as a 32" 4:3 CRT did.  37" - 42" is a decent size.

I do not understand what you are saying. Do you mean you are using a rabbit ears box? How does a 19" CRT box take up heaps of room?

Often it is a good idea to wait until after you've got the Freeview|HD receiver before judging whether the existing aerial needs replacing. Sometimes old VHF aerials will still be able to receive Freeview|HD. But if you're using rabbit ears it may be time to replace it.

You could keep the old CRT and put it in another room. One aerial can be wired to go to multiple rooms.

You could buy a Freeview|HD PVR recorder now and plug it in to your existing TV* until you get a new one. They are receivers too.

* I am assuming your current TV isn't too old to have AV-in.
