Hi all

I have a bit of a peculiar problem. I was helping a friend of my mother set up a new Sony Bravia 32" TV with freeview. When I do the digital auto tuning (or even manual tuning), the only freeview channels it picks up are the four TVNZ channels (1, 2, U and 7).

Has anyone any idea what the cause of that might be? He is in an aged care home, so I imagine the home will be using some sort of distribution amplifier. So I am wondering if it might be the characteristics of that amp that might be the problem.

Anyone seen this before, or have any suggestions?

So there is a shared UHF antenna?
Are the neighbours getting all freeview|HD channels OK?

Has the Home actually got a UHF antenna? They may be still setup for analogue only so it's probably VHF and only the TVNZ Mux has sufficient strength to provide a signal.
Go into manual tuning and check the signal strength/quality.
Have any other residents got Freeview?

Well I was assuming they had a shared UHF antenna. I don't know for sure. I was able to tune in Prime, Maori etc via the analogue tuner.

I have no idea whether any of the other residents have Freeview. They probably wouldn't know :) I'd have to speak to the management I guess.

I can't remember what the signal strength was reading. I know it wasn't poor anyway.

Distrbution systems that block Freeview|HD channels are still pretty common.
