I have owned a T1050 for a week now.  A really impressive box, especially at the price.  I got my one for under $400 retail, including a 2-year replacement warranty.  It came with firmware version 1.8.  It's now running version 1.9 after an ugrade.

This is the terrestrial recorder.  DishTV also has an equivalent satellite box but I don't know anything much about it or how it compares with the T1050.

I have my T1050 connected to a Panasonic TV model THL32X202 HDTV via HDMI cable.  There are a few problems however:

1.  Power off instead of stand-by.    When I turn off the TV (to stand-by) the T1050 powers off instead of going on stand-by.  In this mode the T1050 won't record booked programs, so I have to manually power it back on and leave it on.  The power on and reboot takes about a minute.  The only way I have yet found to work around this problem is to use analogue cables (component or composite) instead of HDMI.  I suspect the problem is due to the VIERA link on the Panasonic TV, but I can't be sure until I test it on another make of TV.  The T1050 has a stand-by mode, but I cannot invoke it for some obscure reason.

2.  A program that is currently recording cannot be stopped or cancelled.  So I have to wait until the program has finished recording.

3.  Accessing the Booked Programs schedule (those programs booked for later recording) is hidden away and requires 7 button actions to access it.  A single button depression on the remote control is sorely needed.

I could return my T1050 for a refund, but I won't.  It's too good otherwise, with a nice big 500 GB hard disk, HD picture quality and easy to use features.

For point 1 - Try turning off Viera Link in the TV and see if that stops it being turned off

Yes, indeed.  That stops it being turned off.  Many thanks.

I also experimented with all combinations of the Viera Link power on, power off and standby settings but none of them had any positive affect.  So I found it better just to turn Viera Link off completely.

That just leaves me with a problem with placing the T1050 on standby.  If I use the On/Off button on the remote (or the same button on the unit itself) the T1050 is turned off, rather than placed on standby, and from that mode it will not record booked programs.  There is no way I have yet found to manually place it on standby, so I have to leave it fully powered on to record.

Does it have a 'standby' setting that will turn the box off after a certain period (but only if there are no buttons pressed on the remote)?

Good suggestion, thanks.  I have looked through the user manual again and gone through all the T1050 menus, but I can't find a setting that does this.

I am currently trying the T1050 out, having switched the TV off and locked away the remote control.  But so far after an hour it is still full on.

I have one of these and it does record when in standby. A short press of the power button on the remote or unit puts in standby. A long press shuts it down.

Recordings can be stopped while recording. There is a screen that shows when recording or playing.

There is also a button that takes you to recorded programs but getting the scheduled recording screen is a bit of a cluge

I found that when recording 2 channels simultaneously - I cannot switch the "live" channel to another channel , say I am watching Ch 3 and trying to change to Ch 2. I get an "invalid entry" message on the screen. But strangely it will work if I try other channels for example Prime or Maori TV.  This problem does not come up if I am recording only 1 Ch at any time.

How is this box behaving been trying 3 othere boxes one was the T1020 2 off them, to much pixilations, plus a few a bugs the other boxes gave a very good picture no pixilations but also had a few bugs, lockups.

So thinking that the T1050 might have better tuners.

There was a resent formware update did you know what it fixed.?

I thought that with 2 tuners they should not be a Conflict with any other channels.

Thanks

You can on the T1050PVR that I just purchased from JB HI FI today, stop programs that are currently recording. You can choose to either keep or discard the recording made so far.

To do this, press the stop key (square icon button) next to the arrow keys on the remote, then follow the on-screen instructions. You need to be in LIVE TV mode for the function to be available. Pressing stop (the same button) a few times will get you out of PLAY mode.

I am running firmware version 1.8 which definitely doesn't behave this way.  I think version 1.9 is the current one but after being previously burnt hard and having to return the device for firmware reinstallation, I am reluctant to attempt the upgrade without emergency resuscitation services at hand.  Frown

Bought a T1050 yesterday, installed it today with an analog TV.
Installation was straight forward.
Recording is a bit fiddly, also trouble deleting a recording program at the start.

I would like to reassign the number button on the remote to channels so I can order the channels
in usage frequency.

Anyone know how to do this?
