Hi,

What's the current state of play on the Australian channels available on DVB-S2 HD off Optus D1?

Are they still around?

If not, is there anything permanently available (ie not a feed) in HD on Optus D1 at the mo?

I was watching SBS HD (720p) last night so it is definitely still around. They have some good BBC Docos on there which are less than a year old. Far better than anything available on FTA TV this side of the ditch.

Funny you should ask.
At what could have been exactly 00:00 tonight, SBS HD and SBS Two seemed to disappear. Now I'm getting an intermittent very low quality signal - just a couple of broken frames every minute or so.

Something has clearly happened, whether it is my set up (possum in the dish; rat ate the cable; whatever), or at the satellite end, and whether it's permanent or temporary, I don't know.

Anyone else seeing a problem?

As for any other FTA HD source from Optus D1, SBS HD was the only one running; GEM disappeared several weeks ago,

SBS has been through that a few times. A while back their signal strength levels dropped off for a while and then came back up.

Thanks for the reply re the other true DVB-S2 broadcasts such as GEM etc. Typical, when I finally look to have secured a cheap DVB-S2 receiver it turns out there's nothing left to receive in HD!

Them's is the breaks.

No sign of a possum in the dish - and it's a very clear night, not that I've ever had rain fade with my 90 cm dish.
Fingers crossed it's a technical glitch, maybe with the uplink or something.

SBS back up again.

That'll at least give you SBS HD in 720p.

Sbs was weak and breaking up for me too around midnight for a couple of hours, so it's not the possums!
Sbs 1 is on D1 as SD and 720P HD DVB-S. The only DVB-S2 on the NZ footprint of D1 is Sky and is encrypted.

I can confirm to you that overnight SBS signal was weak throughout Foxtel and Optus D1 due to the huge storm holding back the uplink.
