Recently moved back to NZ from the UK, we also shipped our Samsung TV with us, only a few years old. Ran the auto tune option once in NZ, and it looked to tune in all the channels fine. The EPG works fine, can see the schedule for all channels etc however when choose a channel there is no picture or sound, and after a few seconds the TV comes up with error message saying "HD not supported".

TV model number is LE32A436T1D

As a wild stab in the dark I'd be picking that TV doesn't support the NZ HD freeview standard....

Set top box time....

I think you will find that the TV does not support the encodeing Freeview NZ uses, maybe there is a firmware upgrade avaliable from samsung to fix this?

Thanks, didn't think of that. Will start hunting around... although the TV doesn't have ethernet or USB so not sure how I would be able to flash it...

What's the best value for money Freeview box at the moment? How much extra for one that can record?

Plenty of choices, my personal choice, get a Tivo, Noel Lemming/Bond and Bond currently sell them around $300, although if you time it right they do have them on special for $200.

well I have satellite and terrestrial and I bought a tivo for $199 but even at $299 I would say it really is the best freeview capable recorder on the market here. Easy to setup but some layouts are different but still easy enough. I would recommend one

Edit to say only drawback with the tivo is you have to have bradband internet connection

Warehouse one at $70 is ok. but if you can get the tivo do it.

Looks like your set is a generation or two too old. LE32A is an A series, you might have had luck with a C series set or newer.
