How do you contact this company?

"enquiry@loranz-av.com: Diagnostic code: smtp;550-5.1.1 The email account that you tried to reach does not exist."

Was wanting to know if they had a software download link available, and whether or not the recorded .TSV files are encrypted - no PC software wants to know about them.

Thanks, will see if I can get in contact. Might just ditch this and get something else, with .TS files that can be edited/viewed on PC, etc, if it's going to be a pain.

Looks like a TS based structure to me. The problem seems to be that the TS packets are not aligned with the start of the file. Maybe that means that the file has some kind of header on it, or just that Loranz doesn't align recordings like 90% of other apps do. Try downloading a hex editor and deleting the bytes at the start of the file until you get to the first 0x47 (ASCII "G"). It might seem complicated but it really isn't - it is pretty much like editing a text file and deleting regular characters.

I'd done a hexedit before I saw yours, but still no sound/video in VLC and VideoRedo doesn't want to know either. The writer of Redo was thinking it may be encrypted.

The junk does seem like a header to me, given the potentially meaningful string at the start ("TSRF2.2.2"). Then comes a good few NULL/padding packets. The first packet with meaningful data starts 47 1F FF 16, which indicates that PID at least should not be encrypted... unless it is encrypted at the ES level. What is the source - Freeview satellite, Freeview HD, Sky, TC cable, or somewhere else? I'm about to head home so I'll run it through my tools there...

Hmm, I can get the audio to play in various players with stutters, but not the video. I note that the AAC tracks are missing - that would be enough to throw some TS splitters for a loop (you might need to tick the VR option something like "ignore transport stream maps" with these files). tsMuxeR and TsRemux don't like it. Was the stream watchable when you made the recording? The stutters and general unplayability of the video suggest stream corruption or encryption. Given that the TS headers clearly do not have the "encrypted" flag set and that the NAL units start codes can be identified, I suspect stream corruption rather than encryption. Either that or the recorder really is doing something strange with the packet data when it writes it to disk.

It was the only reference I could find to "TSRF2.2.2". The translation suggest that the format really is a plain TS with a header (although I see they also put stuff in the NULL packets - bad practice), however the software that they mention doesn't make your stream any more playable than I can make it with other software. Do all of your recordings exhibit the same behaviour?

Played back ok on the unit. I only hooked it up last night, so that's about all I've done so far. Will do a few more recordings and see what happens. Not sure how up-to-date the software on this unit is - you can do an over-the-air update, but can only schedule it for weekly or monthly at a certain time... no "update now" feature, unless you do the USB upgrade. But seeing as the website is next to useless and the email addy bounces, it may be a bit tricky!

Okay.
It may be doing something with the PCR timestamps (audio/video/subtitle timing). It seems like that is stored with the video stream in that sample. If that is the case then you may not be able to do much about it unless you can get VR to load it. I think one of the things VR does with the quick stream fix is to try and repair the PCR. I haven't got VR so you'll have to try that yourself...

Download the trial of TS Doctor and see if it handles it.
It has handled pretty much all Freeview HD (UHF) files that I have chucked at it, and usually outputs a relatively clean .TS file.
It should detect any stream errors, and will usually fix them.

The trial is only for 30 days, but IMO, it is worth buying it after.
It's seems to be very actively developed. The guy that develops it seems to put a beta out every few days.

A very smart program indeed. Worth a look.

I recorded a few more clips tonight. TV3 no sound or pic in VLC. Maori TV stuttery sound only then VLC crashes. Looks like this seriously needs the software update - the installed software is dated Nov last year: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=83&topicid=91870.

Also, after recording 3 short clips further attempts have the suitably vague "Not valid enter recorder" error message.

Wow, TS Doctor had 3 warnings and 1500 errors:
