I just got ripped off by these people http://www.nextbay.biz/ by buying online. I think they're in Hong Kong. I thought I was getting a Vu+Duo but I got a shoddy, crappy quality counterfeit machine.

They sell fake dreamboxes and fake Vu+ machines. They tell you to visit www.vuplushd.tv to upgrade software. There is an extra cable in the box, a null modem for running some dodgy "secret chip reprogrammer" so that the software can be upgraded to other Vu+ software. Once installed the software will green screen of death within minutes of being turned on. Even the plastic is off-gassing and it is hurting my eyes.

I told them I wanted my money back. I got an email from them with "he, he" in reply. I will be getting Paypal to stop doing business with them. They are just low-down counterfeiters. I will try to get UPS China doing business with them too.

Be warned. Don't buy these type of linux sat receivers from Hong Kong or China. It is just too risky.

I'm sorry to hear about your issues, its an expensive and time consuming mistake to make. Potentially could the fact that the site is riddled with comment spam have been an indication that something may be off? http://www.nextbay.biz/vu-duo-hd-set-top-box-stock-on-sale-freeshipping_p19.html has comment spam dating from 25/02/12 with no legit comments/reviews. I do enjoy the warning above the comment box though "... we will closely moderate all posted reviews for appropriateness in the first 24 hours".

Yeah I so feel pretty stupid.

If only someone was selling legit ones in NZ.

The counterfeit doesn't even tune in a channel. It says it finds them in a channel search and that's it. No picture. A complete dud.

I hope Paypal is cooperative. IMO they shouldn't have anything to do with counterfeiters. I actually took Paypal's presence on the website as making the site legit. I'll be pointing that out to them.

Anyone wanting to buy a Vu+ Duo in NZ, would be best to contact the Australian importer:

www.vuplus.com.au

Craig has been very helpful to me, and he is a straight-up guy whom you can trust.  He also carries an excellent range of spare parts in stock.
