Want a cheap TV for in the Kitchen (on an arm so we can swing it to different viewing angles).

Came across this yesterday and wondering if it will work in NZ with Freeview?
$98 for an LED (albeit 16") seems good.
http://www.bigw.com.au/entertainment/televisions/led-tv/bpnBIGW_0000000288423/awa-16-quot-40cm-hd-led-lcd-tv

But obviously not good if it doesn't receive Freeview 8-).

Found plenty of discussion on here about taking TV's to Australia, but couldn't find anything about bringing a TV the other way.

Any advice appreciated!

Might do, however being a cheap brand like AWA might not?

All the latest Samsung/Panasonic/Sony series seem to have either NZ/AU available for the Freeview settings

Typically No.

The channel spacing is different so most likely you won't pick up anything on a scan.

Save the money, but something local and better, for a little bit more.

A$98 = about NZ$130
+ freight (horrendous from Oz)
+ it's only 16"
+ it most likely won't work here.
You can pick up a decent 22" - 26" LED TV here under $300 guaranteed to work.
Might even do better on Tradme.

Thanks for the replies.

Might go and have a look at the JBHiFi along the road and play with the settings on a more major brand.

AWA is local AU company. The main difference here is that Freeview NZ is using DVB-T MPEG4 but Australia Freview uses DVB-T MPEG2 for both HD and SD content. The main issue here is that this cheap TV may not have MPEG4 support. I agree it isn't worth a try.

Don't forget you can just get the TV and plug a NZ Freeview STB into it. False economy though.

If it's AU Freeview certified it will be MPEG4 compliant.

funny thing - i took my 1080p freeview nz tv to oz - everything works except the guide.

brought it back - everything still works (obviously) but the guide no longer works like it used to ... very strange ... but pressing INFO still gives me the channel info though ... sorry not trying to hijack :)

I'm not sure if they broadcast OTA firmware updates in Aussie, but if they do it could have easily messed with your TV
