I'm seeing an issue on Win7 Media Center with the ATI Catalyst drivers 9.7 & 9.8. 1080i content (TV3) has 1sec bursts of pixelation/corruption occuring regularily every minute or so. This occurs on LiveTV and Recorded-TV. This is not a tuner issue.

Edit: Actually what I think I'm seeing is corruption, not pixelation, because a few times I've seen a repeated frame from a few seconds ago mixed with the current frame.

Anyone else seeing this issue?

Win7 64bit RC, ATI 4670, Catalyst 9.8

What is your signal strength like?

Picture breakup is typically a signal related problem.

Yeah - I agree with Biddle. The best way to be sure - replay the recorded content back using a different computer - and if you still get the issue you know it is not a display issue.

What tuner are you using - if you are using Hauppauge - get the new Win 7 driver from http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/site/support/support_support.htm

The next step is to see what the signal strength is. If it shows less than 90% - then that will be the most likely cause. I am only saying that as I have not had any problems since I got the new Catalyst 9.7 drivers.

Thanks guys for the feedback. It appears I'm the only one with this issue, so I'll do some more investigation.

To confirm this was not a tuner issue, I recorded TV3 using my Vista PC running GBPVR, and confirmed it played-back ok on that PC, then copied the file to the Win7 PC and played-back on 7MC which displays the pixelation issue on this known good recording. This issue is also seen on 7MC LiveTV using either of my tuners (Hauppauge HVR2200, DigitalNow "DNTV Dual Hybrid PCIe S2") to which both tuners have 100% signal quality.

So no-one else is seeing this issue?

Can you post a small sample of one the 1080i files with the problem, I've give it a test on my 4770 if you like.

Thanks Ragnor for the offer, but I've been doing more testing and now 100% sure it is not caused by the recording itself.

When watching TV3 LiveTV and I notice a pixelation burst, I timeshift back and re-play that segment again, which replays OK. The pixelation never re-occurs at exactly the same point, but is still occuring relatively regularily at 1 minute intervals (offset relative to the start point of the replay).

Taking this a step further, I have installed Win7 on my HTPC which has completely different hardware to my existing Win7 PC (except still using the ATI 4670 video card), and I experience exactly the same TV3 pixelation issue on that PC as well.

I have also tried a ATI 3650 card, but same result.

I got same problem as techo, I rolled back to 9.3, the problem solved. I think it is the driver's problem.

I used Win7DSfilter to change the decoder to MPC-HC's video decoder. It was getting better, and I think the problem is solved.

I have had the same issue with an ATI card on v9.7 in Win7 (32RC) I initially had this card installed with v9.6 which didn't support the playback of SD content while TV1, 2, 3 were fine. I switched to a NVIDIA card and all was almost better, except that after about five minutes into watching anything on live TV the video started dropping frames until it ws unwatchable. However a simple pause then play or channel change would bring it right. After hearing that v9.7 was out i swapped back to the ATI card and now have the same picture pixelisation/ breakup issue you describe.

I test the live TV for the whole day, the problem actually still not fixed by my way. I think it is driver's problem. I got this problem for MediaPortal on v9.7 as well. After I changed back to v9.4, everything works fine for MediaPortal.
