2degrees closes Your 2degrees and

Online Store sections of website

2degrees has discovered a bug in the Your 2degrees and Online Store sections of its website and have taken them down temporarily.

The issue was only revealed yesterday due to the high volume of traffic that visited the site within a matter of hours. There were nearly 100,000 unique visitors on the site yesterday and the issue affected the web sessions of less than 100 people during this time.

Those people who experienced the issue were able to see only the contact details of another person on the site at the same time.

Above all else 2degrees values the privacy of our customers and so until resolved the Your 2degrees and the Online Store sections of our website will be unavailable until further notice.

No other 2degrees services are impacted by this issue. Customers are still able to purchase and activate SIMs, make calls and send texts.

Is this partly the reason that the full number range of personlised numbers has not been released (limited to 022 0 xxx xxx)?

Can you provide any further information about the number ranges? A lot of us have been waiting in anticipation for weeks since 2 degrees "teased" us with "10 million numbers" and many of us have wasted a lot of time because of promises of availability of numbers this morning which didn't eventuate, and now a suggestion that numbers will be 'drip fed' slowly.

I think we would all just be happy with clear information about how this is going to work so we know where we stand.

Any indications when this is likely to be back up 2degrees? I think you guys need a new housekeeper... or perhaps reduce the ironing pile a bit... Cool

Yeah - I called 2Degrees to see if my new chinwag SIM could be hooked up with a number of my choosing - I was advised to use the website (at which point I mademention of it being down...oh, yeah!). Sorry - haven't got an estimate of when it'll be bacj up, but if you try again in an hour...

That was several hours ago and it's still down. What's up, 2Degrees?

The kind of problem that they are having happens when the site is heavily loaded.  It's probably also a concurrency issue.  They can be very hard to track down, especially if you haven't got test cases set up ready to go that simulate said loading.

I really feel sorry for them, as a developer I wouldn't like to be in their position right now.

I would've thought they'd have a manual system that they could use at CSR level to do the number porting and the number selection while the site is down, though.

If you owe Vodafone for a $5 IOU, will they still let you port your number to 2 Degrees?

Encourage everyone to run their VF sim into $5 IOU then step up to 2degrees.

Im not suggesting this of course.
