This event has just started in Auckland and I will update this post as we go...

Eric Hertz (2degrees Mobile CEO) on stage, saying this is a 18 months update.

Over 400 employees, with offices in AKL, WLG and CHC.

New Zealand-based call centre, open seven days a week, 24 hours a day.

After six months 2degrees has ten branded stores, with plans to open 40 by the end of the year.

CHC call centre still to come with 60 - 80 new jobs, plans just slowed down because of earthquake.

206k customers 12 months ago. Now with 580k customers (anyone who used the network in the last 90 days).

$100 million for network expansion. 97% coverage, but expanding capacity. No further updates yet.

And this was the main announcement.

90 day basis is pretty odd. why change methodology from the 30 days they used previously?

I think they always used 90 days, while other operators use year?

they definitely used 30 days for the previous announcement.
http://www.nbr.co.nz/opinion/chris-keall/live-blog-2degrees-customer-announcement

"Mobile newcomer 2degrees is claiming 206,000 active customers, giving it around 4.5% of the mobile market.
The telco launched its service six months ago today.

Chief executive Eric Hertz said that by active, the company meant any customer who had paid for a call in the past 30 days."

industry standard is to use 6 months (180 days) basis for external reporting, but 30 days is arguably a better measure. 90 days is completely non-standard.

Wait, that's it?
Releasing customer numbers doesn't count as a major announcement! Epic Fail 2degree's.

Hmm nothing there most people didnt already know TBH... (apart from customer numbers). They could have just done a press release for that info rather than an "event" - maybe theyre teasing us.... maybe something good is coming up... ;)

I was hoping for some real network related announcements like
* National 3G coverage - no more broadband data zones
* More handsets like Ideos X6
* More game changing plans.

$100 million for network expansion.

That's a pretty big announcement. Besides there is a whole thread on Geekzone speculating on how many customers they would have. Thought that would of made some people happy, the fact that they answered your question. Can't please everyone I guess.
