An interesting development. I;ve always thought that Dell shot it self in the foot when it moved all its local account management to Australia in the early 00s. It seemed to sow the seeds of a decline which undermined the fanatasic inroads they made in the previous decade. And I ceretainly experienced a signficant decline in satsifaction with them from that point.

So interesting to see restoring an in-country presence, but at the same time moving away from the direct-channel approach to a third-party reseller model. Again, I always thought that was one of Dell's real advantages though - again - its performance and attractiveness seems to have waned in recent years.

What do others think. Will this make you more or less likely buy Dell from here on?

I think it's good to see they're adding a presence here again. I always like dealing with someone in NZ, if something goes wrong then it's usually easier to get things sorted.

What's going to make me less likely to buy another Dell is the fact that I'm onto my 3rd motherboard & 2 AC adapter for my XPS m1330 in the 18 months that I've had it, I've never had so many problems with a laptop!

To me the advantage of Dell was always the ability to custom build a machine right down to the colour of it, and have it delivered to my door without having to deal with a grinning salesman who knows stuff all about the product. That said, I don't think they're taking their focus away from the direct sales model, but rather just offering a retail purchase option for those who prefer it.

My next machine will probably be a Mac, but if I were going to buy another Windows PC then Dell would still be my brand of choice.

It will be interesting to see how their smart phone ambitions evolve.

I do some contract work for a govt organization and we have swapped from Lenovo to Dell in the last few months, there onsite support is better and response times are quicker, perhaps with them picking up more of these contracts it had led to more nz based personal.
