Not all the DC providers will allow you to put gear in their racks unless all the servers are fully managed.

I know Vocus/Maxnet run a DC in Christchurch which anyone can put gear into without needing a fully managed contract. (Yes I work for them and have deployed a number of systems for DR there )

But as mentioned there are a few options when you look outside of wellington.

Zeon: I know Orcon don't provide colo from Avalon. The ones I think of are Xtreme Networks who i think are somewhere near parliament. I also know Unleash can provide colo space somewhere in that vicinity (its AT&T or at least AT&T are in there from memory).

Your best bet is actually Christchurch for DR stuff - heaps of options down there.

Try The Colocation Company (http://www.thecoloco.co.nz/) - Durham Street, Sydenham, Christchurch. I believe the Christchurch City Council hosts there.

“I do not think there is any thrill that can go through the human heart like that felt by the inventor as he sees some creation of the brain unfolding to success... Such emotions make a man forget food, sleep, friends, love, everything.” - Nikola Tesla

Do they do part rack hosting?

Also interested to see how people find their cost structure, charging by power consumption?
