This is the first year in many that my wife was not an exhibitor there and she definitely saw the difference this year.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

As the dictator said, we went together. The marketing was a bit quieter than previous years - I only picked up on it because I was flicking on NBR and noticed it there, rather than being emailed as I normally would to my private email.... guess there's been a ritual cleansing.

Event was definetly subdued as if people didnt know it was on and felt empty, which was a shame as the venue is still a good size. I guess if you're not Auckland, you get a cut down show, which is unsurprising - it costs a lot of money to put these on, and for most of the exhibitors (akld based) lots of extra costs to support.

Shows are hard graft but fun... speaking from experience...!

BTR: On another stand the guy demoing the product admitted that today was the first time he had seen and used the product....

Hate it when that happens. It's one of the reasons we go to these shows, isn't it? Thankfully I found the people at the stands in Auckland generally seemed to know the products on display well enough. And with the smaller number of visitors it was easier to ask any questions. If only there were more stands and products!

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

I went to the Auckland show and thought it seemed smaller and there was less buzz than previous years.

The lady on the 3D printer stand was very enthusiastic and I spent some time talking to her.  I can't believe how small and quite the Microsoft stand has got over the last few years.

I've been going yearly since the Tech Pacific days, and this one in Wellington as measured by the number of bags, pamphlets, giveaways and chocolates I leave with was definitely the smallest event ever.  Not sure it's worth my while going next year.  I'm attributing it to the general demise of the PC.

But IM only sells Apple to a limited number of resellers.  So, you never see any Apple products on display, only 3rd party stuff.

Ok, I think its more down to marketing awareness, preference for online brochureware, youtube blah blah

Death of the PC is over played IMHO

I suspect a pile-up of factors - the slow decline of the desktop, the after-effects of the GFC, e-tailing...

I last went a couple of years back armed with a bunch of questions I wanted to ask some vendors but havn't seen the benefit in going since. Id like to see someone to organise a good sized technology fair.

And word has it that the NZ operations of Ingram and Synnex lost a princely sum in the last financial year.
