Update from Microsoft

Current status: We're gathering and analyzing data in an effort to isolate the cause of impact. Initial reports indicate that impact is specific to the Outlook client and users with access to other protocols, such as Outlook on the web or the Outlook mobile app, can view message content in those platforms as a potential workaround.
Scope of impact: This issue could affect any user attempting to view an email message in the Outlook client.

@dynamic  do you think the roll-back would work on a home version of Outlook?

Would Windows Update just undo the roll-back first chance it got?

Same thing here. On my Windows machine I'm only getting the first line of content. On my Mac all is well.

@kiwifidget yes this should work fine on a home computer.  Give it a go.  You should see the software reinstallation progress.

I'm just testing an automated rollout of this with one client... looking good so far!

BTW - Outlook on Mac (16.49) seems fine. Have no problems viewing my emails against Office 365 from the client.

@Dynamic I'm interested in your automation.  How are you selecting the results that you run the command on?   And are you running the command as an admin or as the logged on user?

It has worked for me!

Thank you very much.

@espio my batch file is currently very simple, and with basic testing appears to work when run as admin or as the user.  We are working on a technique to find the current version, so if the current version is already the one we want, a reinstallation does not happen.

For those who haven't been through the whole thread, here's the fix.

Use Win-R to open the Run dialogue, paste in the line below including quotes and hit Return. It takes les than 3 minutes to run. No reboot required.

Espio:

Yes, noticed on 5+ users this morning.  We are running the following to resolve till a fix is announced.

"C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ClickToRun\officec2rclient.exe" /update user updatetoversion=16.0.13901.20462"

Is there any way for users to specify they want to stay in the Enterprise channel instead of the latest?

Guys...... this affects all Click to run Versions of Office (2016/2019/CSP/365)

It does not affect Volume License versions of office that are MSI installed (2016 and below)

Microsoft have blocked the latest update from been applied to affected versions until such time as they have resolved the issue
