Lol at the announcement mentioning they didn't take any government subsidy either, unlike someone.  Shots fired

Looks like Jeff will be a 100% bona fide Kiwi soon.

Awesome addition together with Peter and Larry now we just need an Elon.

Hopefully this will also spark more traffic and business for Mahia.

freitasm:

Investments in building three different zones that make up a region. All in Auckland. Plus 1000 new jobs.

I'm imagining these people aren't going to be all from NZ, not sure where they would magic up 1000 people to be honest :)

Most of them will be construction jobs. Once the project is built they will move on to other things.

Very sort of , all it says is that the spending will be made up of CAPex, OPex, and importing equipment...

Also the jibs promised are encapsulated as

AWS employment could increase by over 200 additional full-time positions, such as data centre technicians and security personnel, “

with most of the jobs are flow ons.....

800 FTE (full-time equivalent) jobs in sectors like telecommunications, non-residential construction, electricity generation, and data centre personnel, bringing the total job gains to 1,000 FTE .

Nate001:

Can someone elaborate how they will spend $7.5bn over 15 years? That seems to be an absurd amount of money, I'm suspecting its accounting tricks etc?

To put it in perspective, Commercial Bay cost just over $1bn.

Commercial Bay is really a very simple building. There's a lot of it but it really is just a copy and paste job times X number of floors.

Hyperscaler data centres aren't as tall but they are incredibly well built and the services are of similar quality to places like PC3 labs and critical military installations.
