I already do. I just moved here from Canberra so I still have my account there.

I need more help with this, so I'm just gonna keep posting my dumb questions here.

If I switch hosts, and I'm using wordpress, will I even notice any difference? I barely touch my current hosts page atm anyways, but the odd time I need to I will be logging in somewhere different. But all my wordpress stuff should be the same? In other words, can I just sign up and carry on as normal? Or do I have to go through some back up BS and reconfigure everything and so on?

My blog drives me crazy like this... I hate that I know nothing about this stuff, and that as a result everyone has way cooler blogs than me :(

If your account is on a cpanel server it should be able to be transferred seamlessly. I would back up everything anyway though as I have had a few problems in the past with Fantastico! programs not making the trip the way they started.

I have also had a few problems with sitebuilder not behaving as it should during transfers. Basically anything with a database I would back up just incase.

The main problem when you move databases etc from one host to another is the version of PHP5 they are running. If they are the same there should be no probs.

Just something to check.

as for wordpress, you log in now to something like yourdomain.co.nz/wordpress/ to use it and after you change hosts it would be the same as it is the same address. Only thing to watch, as I have said, is that the programs transfer well.

Hope this helps.

From memory I think you also need to set the permissions correctly on your images folder so that uploads work.

I would contact your new webhoster and ask them how they can help move your wordpress blog.  I know of another member here on Geekzone that had issues, and in exchange for signing up for a year, his new web hoster moved his wordpress blog free of charge.

They should move it for free anyway!

If I was going to be charged to move accounts to a new host I would seriously reconsider moving to them at all!

I didnt think anyone charged for that nowadays.

I also transferred a clients account from an old US serer to my AU server and there were major problems with a joomla CMS.

Took us about a week to get it working properly again. I recall it was the images folder as well.
