I know of www.webhostingtalk.com.au but does NZ have an equivalent site for hosts?

Also, can anyone point me towards a cheap but reliable NZ domain reseller for .co.nz etc domain names?

Cheers

there are only a hand full of NZ web hosting company, that is locally hosted, so you won't find much here to talk about, as for .co.nz ...

Discount domains

and 1stdomains, which is owned by net24

It amazes me how, in NZ you get away with advertising things as "total cost" and then put in small writing "+GST"

This isnt allowed in OZ.

quite a catch for a newbie to the country

The States is similar - food is advertised without tax, and added at time of purchase. Very annoying if you have the exact change.

Back on topic, Domains4Less is owned by WebDrive - I had no idea until I noticed the Domains4Less lookup uses WebDrive.

I've just moved 2 of my 3 websites to www.hostwebsite.co.nz this weekend. Looks like it's based via Orcon (probably a reseller). Jess was great in getting my sites all up and running with minimum fuss (no settings lost!) so it was pretty transparent to visitors. Changed DNS to their nameservers before 6pm and after 6pm all traffic going to the new webhost.

I have all my domain names (3) through Orcon. There's probably cheaper places but not fussed moving them elsewhere at present.

More specifically, a reseller of these guys, who are based in Orcon's data centre.

I see hostingdirect have a free(!) option, 100Mb space/1000Mb traffic. I have nowhere near that much traffic, but how big is 100Mb? I run a basic blog using Wordpress, does anyone know if 100Mb would be a little tight space wise? Currently paying a small fortune through Yahoo Small Business :/

Awesome, thanks. Looks like i found my new host! One more q, I do use some images, but I use flickr and embed them in posts, so this will contribute to traffic, not storage, right?

Agreed.  I find it a challenge to figure out who is reselling who, and who is hosted where.  It's the small things in life... Cool

Wouldnt the ping times from an Australian server be good enough to utilise Aussie hosting?

It has to be cheaper than here?

To be honest, I don't think you'd notice a difference - why not try it, most hosters don't have contracts, so signup with an account and see how it performs.
