I Am Currently a Senior Field Engineer with 12 years under my belt, 6 years as a Field Engineer. Most Vendors wont allow you to support the high end such as servers/networks until you have had at least 3 years of Field engineering work under your belt. Even when sitting Vendor Certifcations you are required to have a few years under your belt before you can even sit the exams as the exams require you to have knowledge and experience.

Also IT is not about computers, It is about people. You have clearly Demonstrated that you have a lack of knowledge in dealing with people in the IT Field. Your Technical knowledge might be top notch as you say, but I suggest strongly you get some more experience in dealing with people.

I always tell my staff that their job is 60%+ communication and 40% technical skill and knowledge.

I spent a fair bit of time monitoring staff communication with customers, because I have a number of ESOL people and also because for some technically inclined people they care less about the impact to the customer and more on the end result from a technical standpoint.

Well What you do in your work experience counts the most,

There is a huge difference between a guy who worked as a sys admin for 5 years and did the required hours and half of the time was watching you tube and dicking around while working vs someone who has being in the game for 2 years doing system administration work and working over time and being a productive and a innovative worker.

That's true, however as a prospective employer it is really hard to tell the difference from just looking at CV. If you are productive and innovative worker you need to be able to clearly communicate it, so communications skills again is equally as if not more important. I think that was the advise that was already given here.

Honestly I think further conversation with this individual is a complete waste of valueable resources. It's clear he isn't listening (Another important skill), and someone clever once said "you never learn anything with your lips moving"

It's clear he has it all figured out which begs the question why post in the first place.

when you look at the cv it looks flat,

but you have to communicate it and show that you went over and above,

I have that skill, some people say I should be in pre sales.

Congratulations on getting a job within 5 days of the original post!

I'm incredibly fresh to the game, just coming up on 1 year in IT, albeit in data warehousing and business intelligence, and I'm always looking for extra advice and ways to improve. I just can't get my head around how you responded to every piece of advice in this whole thread. These people have the proven experience in IT, and in some cases the ability to hire you, yet you effectively told them they didn't know what they were talking about and were flat out wrong.

I get the feeling the answer you were looking for after the original post was "you can expect to easily earn 6 figures in your next job". Instead you got some sound career building advice that you flat out refused to consider.

Anyway, good luck for the future.
