There are services/applications that will import RSS feeds into their streams/pages/etc. Twitterfeed for Twitter and RSS Graffiti for Facebook, are just examples.

As I said RSS is not going to die. It's part of the protocols sites, services and apps use to communicate information.

A RSS Reader is a great proposition as you can separate feeds in groups, mark them read, etc. You can't easily do this on Twitter or Facebook. Google+ allows Circles which makes it a bit easier to separate in groups, but still with a lot comments flying around it may be disrupting for some people.

At the end people use whatever they like, but behind the scenes is still the good old standard...

I'm just trying to understand the logic behind Google's decision.

An ex Google Reader Team Leader stated that G-Reader had not been a favorite for some time and Google was constantly siphoning funding and workers from it for other projects.

He believed it was to force more people to use G+

Google official word was that they didn't have the resources to maintain an infrastructure that could keep GR both running and out of trouble with privacy isses. They also quoted declining usage

Nick is going to release one more version of FeedDemon, without online sync. That's probably what I am going to use.

I would have as well, but would see a day where it stops working and has no upgrade path.

I've mostly moved off to RSSowl....but really do miss the headline + 3 lines of text entry and the pages concept that feeddemon had - meant you actually read the headlines. Whereas will a long list of headlines it overwhelms the brain and you only partially read them.

Sure at some time it may not be compatible with the OS... But I think it'll last a little longer, enough to even have some mature RSS reader in the market by then.

I'm using the reader that comes with my browser. I don't spend nearly as much time on different PCs as I used to so having my reader on just one machine is fine.

And it's brilliant; wished I'd done it earlier.

I use Opera. The RSS reader uses the same engine as its mail reader.

I exported my data using google takeout and imported the subscription.xml into http://theoldreader.com/

Pretty happy with The Old Reader so far.

The Old Reader seems interesting. I really only use the reader on my tablet, GRreader Pro, which I think will just fetch the feeds itself if google disappears

They don't have native apps yet or an API (apparently they are working on those) but the website is responsive (looks like Bootstrap is the base html/css/js framework) to screen size via css media queries.
