Am throwing together a pretty simple quoting system for work to take some details for a product and based on material cost and a table of fabrication costs spits back an estimate for the product.

At the moment before it is made pretty and nice, its just using a htaccess with a few usernames in it to keep it out of the public eye (its for retailers not end users)

But going ahead it will need possibly 100's of users in it, and there has already been enough problems with forgetting passwords etc, so I need something that will allow for users to change them, check they are not stupid passwords, log all the logins etc, allow for password resets and not really much else. So a whole CMS is total overkill for it.

Is there anything else free, in PHP that I can use to look after doing these?

Whenever I've needed scripts in the past I've always found a good selection on HotScripts.com

http://www.hotscripts.com/category/scripts/php/scripts-programs/user-authentication/

61 free scripts with various features sets, might be something there?

I would probably look at coding something myself, are you familiar with coding php and using mysql?  If not let me know exactly what you need and if its not going to take me too long I could try create something basic for you.

There is one I used but it wasn't free, it was a couple of hundred. Can't remember what it is called not but it worked well, and got it off hotscripts.com. If you want free, you possibly need to use a content management system.

Go with a develoment like COdeigniter or CakePHP. They will have drop in user account management systems.
