Hi,

We are looking at creating an e-commerce web site to sell our goods to New Zealanders.

There does not seem to be many shopping modules about with New Zealand in mind, we are using Woocommerce and Wordpress.

We are using Wordpress, so we can have our blog on the same web site.

Has anyone had any luck or know of a module that we can use.  We have been looking at the CodeCanyon one, which is fine for one item but fails when the customer orders more than one item.  We don’t want to discourage customers from ordering multiple items.

If anyone can help or if this isn’t the correct place to ask, suggest an e-commerce forum in NZ.

Thanks

Gary

Not sure what exactly you are after? A wordpress plugin will never be as powerful as a standalone eccomerce package.  How does the standard module not work?  Note; never used woocommerce

You are best to look at standalone ecommerce packages. There are some really good SaaS ones around too which have some awesome features.

I've looked at that but it is very basic.

Working well for a client of mine, who has a basic shop (was originally pitching Magento but that is far too complex for their needs)

I find open cart really good for basic shops. The advantage being that you can host it anywhere, and it isn't confined to just one provider. The disadvantage is that you have to manage the software backend in keeping the software up to date Magento looks nice, but very complex and doesn't seem to perform all that well on shared hosting. I also like Prestashop and CS Cart for more advanced and customised needs, but they all require you to update the backend software yourself. SaaS solutions like shopify are good because you don't have to worry about the updating of the software backend, but if the company every ceases trading, you could potentially lose the site. The problem I find is that a client starts off with simple needs, but then wants more and more features, so I try to chose a cart that as a reasonable amount of room for growth.

Thanks everyone for the responses, we have built the site with Woocommerce and its working fine.

The big issue we have is the shipping of the goods around New Zealand, how do other people handle shipping?

Trying to make the experience as automatic as possible, we don't want to have to quote on all shipments.  Which I rekon would put people off?

See ya...Gary

As an update to this issue, we have gone with a table shipping module and manually entered the post code regions into it.

We will see how this works after some extensive testing.

There is a real chance here for a New Zealand Courier company to create a plugin and also gain some customers.  But we have no control over what people do, so we had to create our own solution.

See ya…Gary
