Hi

First of all I am a rank newbie so apologies if my post is covering the same old ground.

I have had an idea for a web-page kicking around in my head for a year or so and the recent MYOB/Westpac initiative sort of energised me to try and translate the idea to an actual web-site. I have sat down and worked out how I want the web-site to look in Word and Excel but to my dismay when I looked at the MYOB tool I couldn't work out how to get it to work in their template.

A quick description of the web-site would be a homepage and maybe another page or two of narrative and then two registers/tables (sorry unsure of the correct term - something like an on-line spreadsheet database) with links to pages for each entry. On each individual page would be more narrative, some links and a comments posting section. At this stage that would be it but perhaps other things like advertising and on-line selling might be added later.

I have a unique selling proposition although my aims are modest and so are my budget and expectations, but hey I wish I could find a site like the one I have thought of so maybe others will as well.

Am I likely to be able to design a site like this with a free or inexpensive DIY web-site development tool? If yes would appreciate any suggestions for that tool?

Also would this type of site work on an inexpensive shared hosting site? Reading other forums I realise the super cheap hosting sites are too good to be true. I am thinking of the sort of $10-$2o per month varieties. Suggestions again would be welcome.

Thanks

These free website builders tend to be very similar, and tend to be very basic. Also you usually aren't able to move the website between providers, unless you are using a system like RV sitebuilder, which allows you to export and import the website files. You may want to look at a proper content management system, such as Concrete 5, which can be hosted with most providers and is very adaptable, and has a nice interface.

I'm not sure exactly what you're wanting, but it sounds like you could start out with trialling a host for WordPress and the WP-Table Reloaded plugin might cover what you need for now.

Thanks for your very fast and useful response.

Concrete5 looks pretty good. After my head stopped spinning around watching the demos on its web-site, it was apparent it would get me to where I want to go.
