Can anyone recommend a NZ based Email Exchange host? I have a SMB with 4 users who currently have Exchange on Windows Server 2003 & TELECOM ADSL for internet. I am looking for a service that will migrate the 4 users to an off-site Exchange host & be the main contact for technical support.

Why not Microsoft Office 365? Or is it a requirement to keep data in New Zealand for privacy/security reasons?

Microsoft Office 365 would be my recommendation also.

Does it have to be Exchange particularly or something else that has the same feature set?

I use them for Hosted Exchange and Iron Mountain LiveVault Backups for Servers

Would perfer a NZ Exchange host for the best connection, have another client on a hosted Exchange overseas and feedback is it's slow. Is Office 365 faster?
Was looking for a reliable business that can support me through the changeover from onsite Exchange to hosted Exchange & general email support.
Doesn't have to be Exchange but needs to have the same feature set.

I can't see any problem with Office 365 being overseas and speed. It's email after all, a second here or there won't be noticeable.

If you had requirements to keep data in New Zealand, then yes, look at something else. Otherwise, no harm...

I agree with freitasm on this one. For speed Office 365 is fine.

That being said I do believe there are some big arguments for keeping the data in NZ.

you're on telecom ADSL so the speed and latency should be fine. they run about 130ms to the datacenters in singapore

some of the other isps have latency three times higher (> 300ms) and a 1/3 of the peak bandwidth/throughput so can sometimes be a bit slow.

as freitasm mentions, speed for email wont really be an issue. with outlook you're typically running in "cached" mode, so a copy of all your mail sits locally anyway.

depending on the o365 plan you get, you can also have additional (or unlimited) space for your archive file, so you get pretty good storage with it.

Well price isn't everything. At the end of the day it's up to you to make the comparison, but the average response time to a ticket for us is about 11 minutes (Including late night queries). I wonder if support of o365 would be comparable.

Not 11 minutes, but I raised a query on my Office 365 last week and got same day response. The query wasn't urgent, otherwise it would be a faster response.

Raised a query a few months back and got a phone call instead of email response.

Office 365 has been a good experience for my self in deployment and usage. Sometimes Sharepoint can suffer on less-than-ideal connections, especially if you're opening large files. However, for standard office usage it's certainly a very good option.
