I've had an xserve co-located in a datacentre for a few years now, and my need for a dedicated server has come to an end. Given that Apple no longer produce these machines, and they work quite well as an in-house server for a business, I thought someone out there might be trying to find one or more second hand.

Anyone know of any business or server admins who might be looking for an Apple Xserve?

BTR: What model / specs and what price?

Purchased late 2007 for $7830.00:Apple Xserve
- Two 2.0GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon
- 4GB (4x1GB)
- 750GB Serial ATA ADM @ 7200 rpm
- 24x Combo (DVD-ROM/CD-RW)
- ATI Radeon X1300 64MB & VGA Adapter
- Single 650W Power Supply
- Rack Mounting Kit - Square Hole Rack

Purchased mid 2010 for $990.00:

Apple Drive Module
- 2TB Serial ATA

I haven't looked around to see what they're worth at the moment, some small fraction I imagine, but those are the specs.

It's worth noting that Apple has completely dropped support for pre-2009 Xserves in Mountain Lion, even though this Xserve has intel processors, the video card is not supported in Mountain Lion, and neither is the 32-bit EFI (the processors are 64 bit, but not the EFI) There are some documented tricks on the internet to get these puppies running with ML but this is not supported by Apple.

If their value has dropped to near nothing, my other option is to convert it to a very fancy Linux box.
