Looking for some suitiable software where I can remote control another PC via the internet.

Basically going away for about 3 weeks but want to be able to access the computer at home in order to clear out emails etc. I've seen logmein before, given it a try for the free peroid and un-installed it.

Would be handy if there was an android app as well, oh and by the way it needs to be free!

Teamviewer (free) or Logmein (there is a free version)

there are:

* Microsoft's Remote Desktop
* TeamViewer
* VNC
* RemoteAdmin
* LogMeIn
* countless others...

Most of those have mobile apps - I would recommend TeamViewer which is free for personal use. (and you can sign in with it, and access any machine with a logged in client from anywhere else you can log in - even via proxies)... That said, I'm sure LogMeIn has that too, but I've never used it.

LogMeIn. I use the free one at home, paid one on all Geekzone servers. But can't you access email on the go, instead? What if the laptop crashes, or goes to sleep? How you get the emails then?

I too can vouch for Teamviewer, I have this on many friends Pc's with unatended login so if they have any problems I can just connect in and take a look. Its great because even if you restart the pc it will autorun the process which will allow you to login again.

Same as billgates Teamviewer (free) or Logmein (there is a free version)
My preference is teamviewer. make sure you set it up to start with windows and you set it up with unattended access (you have a set password to insert to access the computer)

+1 for Logmein. I used it while on a trip to the UK and it worked really well. And they have an Android app.

Another vote for LogMeIn - just go the free route - it's fully featured enough for plain old remote control of the PC. The time limited thing you might have seen in the past is just related to the full version trial that you get when you sign up - I wouldn't bother with this at all just go with the free version from the start.

I do find it to be a bit slow from time to time, that's generally a connection problem though not a problem with the software.

The iOS app is good, but not cheap. Still it's handy on the iPad to be able to do things on the run.

You can always use RDP as well but just make sure you change your default port to something obscure as a lot of attacks target RDP ports as they're well known and usually wide open.

Been uning teamviewer for a couple of weeks now, seems good.
