Hey guys,
We are getting relatively large now and I am ordering around 5-10 computers a month... from Ascent as we have always done. The service is good but we can make significant savings by cutting out their margin. I am just wondering whether the distributors will deal with us if we aren't a reseller? I am generally after monitors, Intel CPUs, RAM, SSDs and Intel Motherboards. yes we could go HP/Dell etc. but their product isn't as good for us.

I have a deal now with the distributors of the cases but looking for the others parts of the chain!

If you're not a reseller, are you just building up machines for the use of your own business? Do you see the 5-10 computers a month being a static figure, increasing or decreasing in time? Which distributors are you specifically interested in?

I'd say probably not a whole lot at that rate. We have an Ingram Micro account and the savings are minuscule compared to simply buying retail at PBTech due to the amount we do.

Sometimes dealer prices at Ingram Micro etc work out to be above what some resellers charge.

Yep, exactly. We still order a bunch from PB at retail prices, usually because it's better priced than IM.

I probably buy more from Dove than IM. Tend to get PCs etc from exeed. Still buy the odd item from Datawell when prices suit also.

We offered Exeed around 1m of sales and they were not interested as we were an end user.

Disties like exeed are probably bound by contracts to not provide to end users.

Hey guys, thanks for the comments. Yea I see 5-10 being pretty static. We order a heap of server stuff but import that all directly from the US. This is really for desktops etc.

We are the end user, ie it is for our business. Yea the reseller thing is a pain as such!

I rang Ingram Micro and for example the motherboard we are using at the moment is $192 at Ascent but $161 at Ingram which is a decent 15% saving.. Run that out over all components and we its $1-$2k a month which is between $12k - $20k per year so sizable.

With the cases we are using I can buy them for around 30% less direct from the distributor.

When you factor in shipping Ascent is probably making little margin on the PC's they're selling you anyway..
