I have one at work, 0.3 or 0.4m long, IEC male on one end for the UPS outlet, figure 8 on the other for a powerpack for something.

Want some for home, but also with a cloverleaf since a couple of my external drive cases use a 3 pin on them.

Anyone know where they come from? cablesdirect drew a blank.

Otherwise I will have to do the chop and wire carryon which is always a pain on those male IEC plugs.

You should be able to buy an IEC plug at Ideal Electrical - and just chop off the type I / AS3112 plug and wire on the IEC from ideal electrical.

I dont know where to buy them pre-made.

What i usually prefer to do, with a larger UPS is to simply use a 4-way power strip, and chop off its mains AS3112 plug and put on an IEC. That way, you can plug any suitable device into the UPS via the 4-way power strip.

I was hoping to not have to chop and connect because IME those plugs are a pig to terminate.

In saying that I could always run several figure 8 cables into one plug which might help get it have enough in it that the strain relief actually has enough to grip.

APC used to supply empty IEC plugs with their UPS's which I've used in the past but I haven't seen those for a while. Now I usually use these to attach a single device or a plug board.

I have a few IEC to female 3 pin plug which I always like to keep spare. Always handy when you have to go into a datacenter and find some power for your laptop. I have a 30cm one which is super useful.

Then a power strip, and you're away.

that's the one - certainly easier to carry around than the 3pin jobby.
