Hey team, I was working on a site earlier this week trying to install a eftpos terminal (vx510) and to no luck..

The problem I came across was that it was not dialing out which I found out there was a PABX setup on the phone line which then I then entered which just resulted in "a line busy" displaying on the terminal, a lady then came up to me saying that the phone in the kitchen kept ringing and no one was there which we found out happened each time I tried to dial out (do a init RKI or a log on)

The phone line is an extension (no direct dial number for it) so I'm wondering if there is a way to bypass the PABX or something I can do so it dials out to paymark rather then the kitchen!!

The phone line setup is with M2 Communications

I spent a few hours back and forth with differnt technicians and to no succes so any ideas will be highly appreciated, thanks

Sounds like the Eftpos terminal is direct dialing rather than entering the trunk access code first. Maybe the eftpos extension can be set to hotline to the trunk before dilaing the remote number..

I'm making the assumption your PBX has a predigit for outside calls. If so you simply need to change the dial string in the EFTPOS terminal to insert the required predigit which is a 2 min job.

Just spoke with M2 communications and he advised getting in touch with the installer of the pbx as they have nothing to do with that side of things, trouble is the site is ancient and no one can tell me who did it.. When I pick up the phone (it's on the same line) all I need to do to dial to an outside line is hit "9" wait then dial the desired number, tried putting a pause before and after the 9 in the pbx settings in the terminal even used a Vx810 Duet and am getting the same drama

I Had the same issue witha customer, their PABX was digital.
I had to take the eftpos machine to another office to RKI and log on, once that was done I took it back and set it up on broadband.

I know enough to be dangerous

I had to take the eftpos machine to another office to RKI and log on, once that was done I took it back and set it up on broadband.

This is the first thing to check - I would have assumed the OP would know the difference between a digital and analogue system, but maybe they have overlooked this.

If it is an analogue extension then the problem is more than likely incorrect configuration of the EFTPOS terminal. The PBX people aren't going to be able to help with this.

Configuration seemed fine as did a succesfull log on in the office before heading to the site, only thing changed was loading the PBX number ( 9 ) into the dialup settings, added a break/pause before and after the ( 9 ) which still resulted in the kitchens phone been called

I always hot line extensions for Eftpos as getting the eftpos man to put the pre-digit in does not always work as you have found. Get the installer to make the extension a hot line that dials the pre-digit to access the trunks. On samsung's and aria's we can set this time to 0 seconds so that the outside line is immediately available. Others might not let you set it to 0 so needs 1 second.

Do you have Broadband and does the terminal support TCP/IP, if so do your self a favour and set it up to work that way.

Yea the site has broadband and can connect via IP they were just wanting avoide the cabeling side of things as the box/output for that is downstairs.

Just tried another phone jack in another room and it worked perfectly, will most likely run it from there as trying to keep costs down for them

Bet you facepalmed pretty hard on that one. Do you not have a butt phone to test the line with? Would have found out very quickly it wasn't analogue then.

I tested it and worked fine with the phone, asked one of the people there if there was a toll bar on the line and the answer was no... Turns out there WAS ha problem solved no long cables needed to be run. The simple things in life aye
