I have a client who is setting up a new ale house (restaurant + bar), we need to come up with the pos software and hardware as this franchise has no preference. The hardware itself is easy and we don't need it supplied (all in one touchscreens, epson receipt printers, verifone integrated eftpos etc etc).

It's the software that im not sure about, there seem to be several options around and ive dealt with a few on support issues but never had to install any from scratch.

Is there a default "goto" POS software in New Zealand that has the lions share of restaurants etc locked down? Ive done a bit of research and quite like the look of Idealpos and Onetap, i have heard of idealpos but onetap is new to me. There is menumate as well, it is installed at a couple of clients premises and ive found them fairly average in the past, having to chase them up several times to get issues resolved etc, not the sort of support i want in a new install!
If only Posperfect (Today software) had a hospitality option, i would be all over it!

Any opinions on software would be appreciated!

Have you talked to POS Perfect about hospitality module lately? I have seen a demo of their new touch UI version of POS perfect and it looks good. It looks like that it can be heavily customized from a touch point of view for any business really. I think they also have demo video of it in action on their website somewhere.

I have ordered couple of Dell Optiplex 9010 AIO with touch screen and Windows 8 for a Super Liquor store install that currently runs POS Perfect but I will try the touch version on it to see how well it performs else will switch back to standard POS Perfect UI. Was quoted $1350 + GST for a touch screen monitor alone few months back from Today Software. Waited for Windows 8 to launch, rang Dell and getting a really good deal on 2 of these machines with Windows 8 Pro and Wifi card added along with 3 year NBD warranty being an Optiplex machine.

Pretty sure Little India uses menu mate. Never heard them complaining.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Ive had my local super liquor running touchscreens with posperfect for nearly 3 years! The standard UI is fine as it is :).. I will give them a call next week and see what they can offer.
