How can one do this? AUD prices are way out of line and if I am having to pay in another currency, it may as well be the one with the best rate.

Is a VPN all that is needed or is there more to it?

I'd say a VPN would only help if they allow payment via non-US credit cards unless you have a credit card with a US based billing address?. You could always try.

Not tried myself but I vowed never to upgrade from CS5 after their policy of region based price warfare. I wonder if anything has come of the Australian government enquiry into pricing... I never kept track.

Adobe isn't the only one.... Xero is kind enough to scalp NZers on price as well (the customer base that helped them get started in the first place). I guess they could argue that they have to pick a price and currency could fluctuate... (like these companies wouldn't increase their price if that happened...)

Apple is way worse.

To be fair with Xero, that price is fixed and is in NZ dollars, so if the NZ dollar crashed, say down to 40 cents, which is could do, as it is way over valued at the moment, you won't be complaining then. But if you were paying in US dollars, the price you would be paying would DOUBLE! It is probably based on a NZ/US dollar rate of around 60cents.

If Apple's iCloud prices include GST (I'm not sure whether it applies or not) then the NZ prices are cheaper than the US. Same with the App Store; US$0.99 = NZ$1.38 after GST, but we only pay NZ$1.29.

iTunes, on the other hand, has a premium of around 34% :(

In the end I just changed the email address on my trial account to something else, made a new creative cloud account choosing USA when I signed up and used my youshop address and phone number with a NZ credit card and it worked fine.

Just hope they dont send me anything in the mail ;)

Except that the NZD is not overvalued.  If you believe the Economist (the frighteningly accurate "Big Mac Index"), the NZD is actually around about right, perhaps even a tad undervalued.  I personally believe that we will never again see $0.40 exchange rates, and we'd be hard pressed to see sub-$0.70 rates, and exporters just need to get over it and adjust.

No, they don't include GST.  Apple sells out of Apple Australia so that they don't have to pay GST.  So we get ripped off there too.
