Looking at switching to email only.
Any recommendations? Service is foremost, price secondary.

Must use Spam Assassin, so that eliminates Webdrive and their other companies....

If you do a search you will see a lot of posts about email plans on here.

I and a few around here use Office365 and that has a few email only plans.

Does it have to be Spam Assassin, or just any spam filtering?

We use GMail hosted apps, and have done since 07.  Works like a champ.

At $5+GST per month, Office 365 is pretty good. Spam filtering works really well.

Possibly they don't want the emails getting scanned for ads. When they say 'cloud' I presume they mean the email address is interlinked with other cloud services, as any email that is stored offsite on shared servers is essentially in the 'cloud' Cloud is a new marketing buzz word but it has existed for a very long time.

Got an edge facing Windows Server and a domain you can set up an MX record for? Set up Hmailserver. It is a 5 mb mailserver and you can do imap with it too for sync between server and client. Can do spamhaus and spamcop for dns blacklisting and has spam assassin functionality, but you can disable it.

If you don't want anything in the cloud, on site is the only other way to go unless I am missing something in my understanding of the cloud. Cloud = any shared, managed server side service. So even getting hosted exchange is still cloud based email.

Try Vultr using this link and get us both some credit:

Also most cheap web hosting will include email hosting, you don't have to use the web part, eg:

Some cheap hosting can be unreliable for email I have found, as it is often a single server with thousands of websites on it, so if something causes problems it can all go down. This is possibly why the OP is looking for email hosting and don't mind paying a far price. I would suggest hosting that has dedicated email servers such as office 365. Cheap email plans that hosts sell may just be stored on normal web hosting servers.

The other thing to consider is diskspace. Using IMAP you will use up your diskspace pretty quickly on many of these hosting plans

Thanks, just what I wanted, some suggestions that are not cloud.

Webslice is who I have now, no mail only plans.

Openhost is part of Webdrive, and while there is nothing wrong with their service, the spam filters suck. I know, I worked there.....

You would probably be looking for cpanel hosting that has configurable spam assassin built in and lets you see full logs of which emails are received and bounced and the reasons. Many hosts use that horrible plesk control panel.

Yes! You're right.
