Hi guys,

I've been based out in London for a few years working in fairly senior roles within large companies in Web Analytics (Omniture, WebTrends, Google Analytics etc etc).

There are plans for me to eventually move back to New Zealand, however upon research - there isn't a lot of roles in New Zealand for the industry. Moreover the online industry seems to be smaller and hence web analytics doesn't seem as important.

Specifically, I'm after if anyone knows what is the market for roles such as "Web Analytics Manager"; "Online Performance Manager" etc in New Zealand and what would be the salary expectations.

Thanks all in advance!

Uhhhm, not to be rude, but.... really. In New Zealand?

I guess in a handful of the top companies in the country, maybe, you'd find such a dedicated position, not an available position, but that somebody has a job description along those lines, maybe.

NZ has 4 million people, people already know who the big companies are, and the small companies, who could perhaps do with that sort of help, they are not in a position to staff somebody to do it.

Frankly, if you want to stick in this sort of role, you are going to find yourself working as a {shudder} "SEO consultant".

Companies like Trademe, Xero, ASB and so on probably have opportunities in your area of expertise imo, lots of them have "careers" pages on their website and welcome direct enquirers. Development houses like Datacom, Intergen, Enlighten etc may have roles in that kind of area.

Also probably worth contacting the higher end recruitment companies like Lloyd Executive, Hays IT, Madison, Hudson etc.

There are plenty of web analytics roles around. They might be disguised as marketing positions though and include other functions such as PPC campaign management (mainly AdWords), etc. Unless you fall into the SEO thing.

SEO is not a bad thing. What happens a lot though is you will find small companies that are hired based on high promises but at the end just subcrontract a few people based in India or Thailand to go around spamming blog comments and forums with comments that a vaguely related to the topic at hand. You've seen these around, I'm sure.

Run away from these companies, unless you have the same low morals as they do.

This is the case in my organisation. I'm running a project to switch platform at the moment.

The Trade Me role is about analysing database information (think Big Data), not about website traffic.

Or maybe it's implementing the PRISM backdoor.... ;)

I might soon have to bend over and implement the PRISM backdoor if mandated by our government.
