Stumbled across this while investigating something else:

https://www.noelleeminggroup.co.nz/

It current reads like a press release advising that NLG have acquired Maclean Technology, the phoenix company born from Maclean Computing when it ran into financial trouble last year.  The old company's assets were transferred to the new company under circumstances that got a lot pf people's backs up in the industry, if I remember correctly.

Macleans web site also has a press release: http://www.maclean.co.nz/press-release-1st-november-2013-maclean-secure-backing-of-nzs-largest-retailer/

T
his is part of an interesting trend with non-traditional companies working their way into the Managed Services space (i.e. NLG).  Ricoh the copier company have been advertising their Managed Servicers offering heavily for a while on the radio station I listen to in the car.  I guess it is a continuation of the commoditisation (?) of IT.  Vodafone offering Office365 is related too.

Slightly off topic, but did u all notice the recent "The warehouse" ads on TV

They want to get us all instores to check out that they are no more about cheap stuff any more.

what are your thoughts on this.

And coming back to the topic, why would warehouse / NL acquire a IT company. Would this pre-dominantly to support their web ventures - cost free?

It would support their commercial divisions. They sell a lot of gear into schools etc. I can see having an IT company on tap increases their usefulness to a school/SME and could be a tipping point (and it gives them margin.

Given the Warehouse acquisition of the NL Group this makes sense, also helps in their diversification away from the low end of the market.

On a slightly related note: I did my high school work experience at Macleans many years ago...

They do still have a lot of cheap no brand stuff. Also their service hasn't improved, they don't have people coming up to you asking if you need help. They have introduced d
Sony stuff but it is their bottom of the range stuff, the same with apple stuff
