I am currently looking for a solution for a few different companies to provide workflow and process management.

My ideal would have been an opensource solution with a good API.
The problem I seem to be having is either they are very specialised to one particular aspect or industry, or they try to cover everything and end up convoluted and often particularly ugly.

As a compromise the most suggested options seem to be WorkFlowMax, ProWorkFlow and Harvest, but there seems to be very few objective comparisons.
There is a lot of people that testify X is amazing now my life is easy. but very few X is good at 1 and Y is good at 2 and her is why.

Currently I am using the free trials but without lots of data and users and time its not the easiest to tell.

Thought please?

What are the back-end systems that would ideally integrate with these solutions?

For example, we are currently using an industry-speific workflow package that is designed to fire billing information to QuickBooks.  However we use Xero, so there is manual rekeying of some information and a number of compromises.  I've put up with these for 3 years, but now our growth means this is becoming ess practical and causing more headaches.  We are looking to change to another package that integrates with Xero (probably WorkFlowMax, but our evaluation is only surface-deep so far).
