Google accounts aren't available to kinds under 13 years old (in New Zealand, other countries vary). I'd like to know what others have done:

Android tablets for kids: I don't want my own Google account on a tablet my kid might take to school for a show and tell, or use with visitors around here. But I can't create an account for her since she's only 7. I could use something like Kid's Place but is there anything built-in for this situation (such as user management with different user access to store and apps?)

I tried the Android 4.2 Users but it needs a new account, so go back to "no accounts for kids under 13"...

Google Apps for Education: my girl has a school account with Google. Surely we could use that account then to login to Android tablets then? Anyone tried? Google+ is disabled on this account, but what about Google chat and other communications services? How are parents going to monitor these, or are the schools doing it?

How about lying about the age on the Google account?

When it asks for the birth date, just add 13 years.

Problem solved.

Good question, let us know if you find out otherwise my partner can test it out on Monday (teacher).

The overall admin for the educational account can enable/disable these features and all others. Each school is likely to have a different policy

Hey there,

You want to set up a "Supervised User"
Supervised users don't need a Google Account or an email address because the manager creates a profile for the supervised user through the manager's Google Account

It is possible to monitor\control accounts for users on your computers if you are using Chromebooks or Chrome on Windows\Linux.  Google now have "Supervised Users" where you can set up the Chrome account and control what is being allowed to see, block certain sites and check their browsing history.
Check out : https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/3463947?hl=en if you want to check out how to do this.

Just click on www.google.com/settings/chrome/manage to start.

This may be especially useful on Chromebooks which you may want younger members of the family to have a play on but not set them up a full account.  Please note : If the Chromebooks are enrolled to a school\business domain, you will not have admin rights to this and will not be able to create the supervised user.

Hope this helps.
