Does anyone use sugarsync at all?

I'm particularlly interested in using them just as a backup for our photos.

Their gallery works well, which means you can view all your photos on the web as well as on their mobile apps.

I'm a sugarsync user, I'm still on one of their old plans.

One thing I want to point out is that they are NOT a backup service, they are a synchronization service.

That means if you delete a file on one computer that's in a folder that's set to synchronize, then it will be deleted from all the other computers / devices that are synchronized with that folder.

This means that you can accidently delete those photos forever.

Luckily they have a garbage bin feature which stores all the stuff you deleted but also counts towards your storage limit.

I use it and I like it, it's a really good for backup as long as you keep in mind what I mentioned above.

Of course to recover using the Garbage Bin you have to KNOW that you have accidentally deleted a file.  Of you accidentally overwrite a file, you are in trouble.

Personally I sync my photos to a computer in a different building, and once a year during the Christmas Holidays burn to optical disc (now 2x BluRay 50Gb disc).

For backup many others on GZ use Carbonite (I think from memory - search the forums) - a real cloud backup solution with version control so you can roll back file versions.  I think it sync's copies to another computer as well if required but I have not used it.

Sugar sync has version control as long as the complete file has been uploaded between changes.
